[Influencenews I Hyeseon LEE, Correspondent] South Korean container line Hyundai Merchant Marine (Hyundai Merchant Marine Co.) finalized the names of eight 15,000 TEU container ships (1TEU=20-foot container).
The 'Naming HMM Ships Contest' held between July 24 and 30 for executives and employees in Korea and abroad, with a total of 116 participating and 900 ship names received. The names were finalized through the process of collecting opinions from HMM employees and voting.
This is the first time that HMM has named container ships in pure Korean, “HMM Nuri” (inspire all over the world) "HMM Gaon" (be the center of the world), "HMM Hanbada" (make the sea as stage), “HMM Raon” (HMM having the joy with customers and employees), “HMM Daon” (all goodness comes to HMM), and “HMM Hanul” (encompasses a large fence).
In last year of late September, HMM had placed orders for a total of 20 large container ships; twelve 23,000 TEU container ships and eight 15,000 TEU container ships with Korea’s "Big Three" shipbuilding including Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. and Samsung Heavy Industries Co.
The twelve 23,000 TEU class ships will be deployed on the Asia-Europe route, while the eight 15,000 TEU ships on the Asia-U.S. route.
